NEON LIGHT CRUISE ON ROUTE 66 TAKES YOU BACK IN TIME

26 MBCA members and guests from Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma participated in the Neon Light cruise on Route 66 in Tulsa OK on Saturday January 28, 2023.

Participants were provided with detailed driving directions and the history and location of 20 key neon signs on the Mother Road in Tulsa.

The weather was perfect for an evening drive with clear skies and temps in the low 50’s.  13 cars gathered in the parking lot of the Renew store in East Tulsa and drove the approximate 15 miles across town on Route 66 covering about 20 neon signs that have been updated or created with grant money from the Tulsa Route 66 commission.  The 100’th anniversary of Route 66 is in 2026 and work has begun to refresh sections of the “Mother Road” for the expected flurry of tourists from the USA and other countries.

Highlights of the trip included the large 2 sided 30 foot by 30 foot Meadow Gold ice cream sign, Desert Hills Motel sign, and Buck Atoms Cosmic curios 21-foot-tall muffler man.

Dinner at the end of the cruise was at Arnold’s Old-Fashioned Hamburgers restaurant.   There participants feasted on classic drive-in food like burgers, fries, onion rings, shakes and malts.

It was great to have interest from both MBCA members and other non-member Mercedes Benz owners who had heard about the cruise and wanted to participate.

The rules of the road for this cruise were, drive slowly, imagine life the way it used to be, and enjoy the drive with your favorite sweetheart.
